Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration

Welcome to the North Hills School District!

The step-by-step kindergarten enrollment process is detailed below. Registration is limited to residents of Ross Township and the West View Borough.

To begin the enrollment process as detailed below, students must be five (5) years old before August 1.

Parents/guardians with students who turn five (5) years old in August or September and who seek admission to kindergarten in 2020-21 must fill out this formDo not begin the online registration process detailed below.

  • Students who turn five (5) years old in August must take and pass the district's readiness assessment.
  • Students who turn five (5) years old in September must take and pass the district's readiness assessment and participate in a psychological assessment. See the complete school board policy on admission of students (No. 201).

Families are encouraged to register their kindergartner as soon as possible. Per the school board's policy on class size (No. 202), children who are not registered to attend school by June 1 may be assigned to a district school building outside of their attendance area.

Not sure which school your student will attend? Refer to our street directory or view our attendance area map.

Step 1: Register Online

  1. Visit the PowerSchool enrollment portal and create an account or sign in if you have previously used the enrollment portal. Please note: An enrollment portal account is different than a NHSD PowerSchool parent portal account.
  2. Complete and submit the new student registration form in the portal. Be sure to choose the form for the correct school year if there is more than one year listed. Please do not register your 2020-21 kindergartner for the 2019-20 school year.

Step 2: Schedule an Appointment

For the 2020-21 school year only, once online registration above is submitted and you receive email confirmation from the school secretary, your student will be enrolled on a provisional basis.

Due to our district's COVID-19 closure, the second and final step in the kindergarten registration process -- the in-person appointment at your student's school, has been delayed.

When our buildings reopen and it's safe to do so, you will be contacted to schedule your in-person appointment during which required paperwork, as detailed below, will be reviewed to remove the provisional status from your student's enrollment.

Please note:

  • As a provisional enrollee, your student will be included in planning for the 2020-21 school year.
  • If you had an appointment scheduled in the coming weeks, it is canceled. You will be contacted when schools reopen and it’s safe to reschedule that appointment.
  • All readiness assessments for incoming 2020-21 kindergartners have been canceled.

When in-person appointments resume, you must bring the following:

  1. Completed and printed Home and Health packet
  2. Completed Request for Student Records form if the student attended a kindergarten program at another school or district
  3. The student's birth certificate or baptismal record
  4. The student's immunization records (See what's required)
  5. Court-ordered custodial agreement, if applicable
  6. Proof of residency documents:
One (1) Section A document: Two (2) Section B documents:
    • Current deed
    • Lease
    • Mortgage statement
    • Proof of tax registration with Keystone Collection Group
    • Driver's license
    • Utility bill
    • Automobile registration
    • Tax statement
    • Public assistance or medical assistance card

What to expect at your registration appointment:

After turning in the information above, you will:

  • Receive information about volunteering in your student’s classroom and obtaining your volunteer clearances
  • Be entered into the school’s Raptor visitor management system (Be sure to bring your ID!)
  • Receive a list of important dates to remember

Please no children. Parents and guardians only. The appointment should last no longer than 15 minutes assuming all paperwork is complete and ready to be submitted.
