The new addition at West View Elementary School moved an exciting step closer to completion on Thursday when the final exterior steel beam was hoisted into place! Check out this video!
North Hills School District Superintendent Dr. Patrick Mannarino, West View Elementary School Principal Jesse Simpson and Assistant Principal Kaitlin Hoch, along with representatives from SitelogIQ and general contractor R.A. Glancy & Sons, Inc. signed the beam before it was installed.
In signing the beam, Dr. Mannarino chose a quote from the inside of the 1939 West View Senior High School School yearbook “The Westvian” that reads, “Here is to making a great swing of progress!”
With 120 students, the class of 1939 was the first graduating class from West View Senior High School. The school was renamed prior to that school year following an expansion to make room for grades 10, 11 and 12. This was the first of many additions and expansions to the now nearly 100-year-old building. When it opened in 1925, the school was West View Junior High School, housing grades 7, 8 and 9.
This latest addition along Chalfonte Avenue will include the school’s new main entrance and office spaces, as well as an open stairwell connecting all three floors. The top floor will house the new library and several classrooms.
Crews expect to have the addition “dried in,” meaning the interior will be waterproof and sealed off from the elements by Halloween. The addition is expected to be complete in January.
Renovations will then begin in other parts of the building to continue the $39 million renovation project, which isn’t slated for completion until the summer of 2025.
The hope is to have the project wrapped up in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year and also to coincide with the building's 100th year anniversary.
