Report cards for the second semester of the 2018-19 school year will be available online via PowerSchool starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10.  PLEASE READ:

From late June to early August, PowerSchool will not be accessible while we build and schedule classes for the 2019-20 school year. If you need grades or other information typically found in PowerSchool during this time, please contact your child's school directly.

This information will help you to use PowerSchool, the online student grade and attendance access system. PowerSchool is easy to use and will allow you to take a more active role in your child’s education.

PowerSchool offers parents real-time access to access grades, attendance, teacher comments, assignments, bulletin boards and other important pieces of student-related information. Access to PowerSchool is available from anywhere in the world through a secure online web portal and a free PowerSchool app that is available for all iOS and Android devices.

Getting Started

  • Access the Student and Parent Portal utilizing any web browser
  • Click the "Create Account" Tab followed by the "Create Account" button
  • Complete the Parent Account Details Form and the Link Students to Account Form using the Access ID and Access Password listed for your students. Be sure to type your Access ID and Access Password exactly as provided as the information is case-sensitive. Don't have Access ID and Access Password? Email
  • When finished, click "Enter" at the bottom of the page
  • You may now log into the Student and Parent Portal with your new login and password. PowerSchool allows parents to create one parent account to view multiple student accounts.

Remember, the parent login and password you create are confidential and should not be shared with anyone. All students will have their own PowerSchool accounts, so you shouldn’t give your information to your student.

Once you have logged into the PowerSchool program, you have access to a variety of information at the click of a button. Although information is available 24/7, please allow teachers several days to update grades and information. Any questions you have about your student still can be answered by contacting North Hills staff members.

Review Your Settings: It is important to update your contact information in your PowerSchool account, so that district communications regarding grades and class assignments reach you in a timely manner.

Account Preferences: Be sure your email address is up to date. This email is commonly used for sending the Grade Notification Emails to parents. The link for Account Preferences may be found on the left side of the page in the Student and Parent Portal.

Download the PowerSchool Mobile App: With the app, parents are able to receive instant push notifications on their mobile devices for attendance or grade changes. Download the free PowerSchool app for your iOS or Android device by visiting your device’s app store and searching for "PowerSchool Mobile." Our district app code is ZMSH. Please note, the PowerSchool Mobile app is completely separate from and not related to the NHSD app which is used for informational district communications. The PowerSchool Mobile app does not replace the NHSD app. We recommend installing both apps on your mobile device to stay up-to-date on the many aspects of your student's NHSD education. Download the NHSD app.

Accessing Student Grades and Reviewing Attendance History

Once you have logged into PowerSchool, you will see a menu bar on the left side of the page. On this screen, you also will find a complete listing of all your student's courses, teachers, grades and attendance information. By clicking on the teacher’s name, you can send an e-mail to your student's teacher. To use this feature, your computer must be set up to send emails from your browser. The colored links give you more information about your student. If you click on any of these links, it will take you to another screen that displays a list of individual assignments, projects or class information. Click on those underlined items to find out the details for the assignment. The date at the bottom of the screen shows you the last time the information was updated. If your student is in the middle school or high school, you also can view the grades your child earned after the first semester ended. Click on the icon marked Grades History for a complete listing of those grades.

The Grades and Attendance screen also shows when your student was tardy or absent. Click on the numbers in blue to find out the days and classes in which your son or daughter was late or absent. You also can see your child’s attendance records by clicking on the Attendance History tab. On days when school isn’t in session, a dash will appear. For a complete listing of all attendance codes, scroll to the bottom of the screen.

Because of parameters set in PowerSchool, NHSD utilizes various codes to note different components of the academic year. Our system is set up to use a two-semester system with a final exam (if issued) and a final grade. Elementary grades use a two-semester system with a final grade for those subjects that have a letter grade/percentage.
