School Closings & Delays

The district uses multiple tools to communicate school closings and delays including:

  • Automated phone and text message system
  • Email
  • Website
  • App
  • Social Media
  • Local TV stations (KDKAWTAE WPXI)
    • NHSD does not control how quickly local TV stations update information.

The decision to delay or cancel school is one that we take very seriously. We take into account current road and weather conditions, temperature and windchill factors as well as the forecast. In addition, ABC Transit, our bus company, employs safety coordinators who travel throughout our district to report road conditions during times of ice and snow.

Typically, the decision to delay or cancel school is made prior to 5:30 a.m. However, there are occasions that changing road/weather conditions will necessitate a later decision.
