School meals no longer free: What you need to know

School meals will not be free this school year. Federal funding for free meals, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, ended on June 30.

2022-23 breakfast and lunch costs are as follows:

  • Lunch (K-12): $2.50
  • Breakfast (K-12): $1.50

Meal Payment

Funds can be added to a student’s cafeteria account online through MySchoolBucks or by sending cash or a check sent to the school's cafeteria manager as detailed here.

Students purchase school meals using their PIN, which is part of their network and Google login information, as they pass through the cafeteria line.

Please contact the Food Service Department at 412-318-1053 with questions.

Menus

Daily breakfast and lunch menus are posted monthly at www.nhsd.net/menus.

Free/Reduced Meals

Federal funding is available for families that need assistance paying for school meals. Families must apply each school year, unless otherwise notified, regardless of eligibility in previous years. Eligibility information is detailed in this letter.

Families are encouraged to apply online at SchoolCafe.com. A print application is also available at this link and can be returned to the Food Service office at the high school. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but the date for carryover eligibility if your student was eligible in previous years ends on Oct. 5, 2022.
