Students create cards to welcome refugee families to Pittsburgh
Seventh grade students in Ashley Buzzinotti’s literacy arts classes created cards to welcome refugee families to Pittsburgh.

The cards will be given to local nonprofit organization Hello Neighbor, which helps resettle refugee families from around the world in the Pittsburgh area and get them started on their new lives in America.

The card project coincided with the students’ novel study of the book “Refugee” by Alan Gratz, which tells the fictional story of three children who are refugees from three different time periods throughout history.

After reading the book, Hello Neighbor volunteer coordinator Aubrey Parke visited the students via Zoom to talk more about the organization and its mission, and share some of the refugee family stories. Great job!
