North Hills Unified Bocce to host Avonworth in first-ever game Jan. 10

North Hills High School’s new Unified Bocce team begins competition on Tuesday, Jan. 10, when they host Avonworth in the school's first-ever bocce game.

Everyone is invited to come out and cheer on our students! The game will take place in the high school gymnasium and those planning to attend should arrive at 2:30 p.m. for player introductions.

After Tuesday, the team has two additional matchups: the first is January 31 at 3 p.m. at Shaler and then February 8 at 3 p.m.at home vs. Deer Lakes. February 8 will also be “senior night” when our senior students will be recognized. Additionally, a canceled game at Hampton may be rescheduled.

This is the first year that North Hills has a Special Olympics Unified Bocce Team. The team is part of Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Interscholastic Unified Sports (IUS) program.

The program, supported by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), Bureau of Special Education and Pennsylvania Department of Education, provides opportunities for students with disabilities and without disabilities to participate in meaningful sports competitions with other schools to promote inclusion, acceptance and respect.

Special Olympics PA is currently working with schools across the state to create IUS bocce, track and field, and soccer programs.

North Hills’ bocce team has its own Instagram. Follow along at @nh_bocce25.
