TikTok Challenge: Threats to Schools

The North Hills School District has learned of a nationwide TikTok challenge that involves threats to schools tomorrow, Friday, December 17. It is our understanding that the challenge encourages students to make threats of shootings, bomb threats and violence against schools.

The Ross Township and Borough of West View police departments are aware of this challenge, and we are working with them directly. As a result, you may see an increased police presence in our schools tomorrow in addition to our NHSD police officers.

At this time, there are no threats involving NHSD or against any of our schools, students or staff members, and classes will be held as scheduled on Friday.

Social media, however, is a powerful tool and can be used to influence others. Parents/guardians are encouraged to talk to their child(ren) about the pressures of social media and the potential consequences of engaging in threatening or violent behavior.

NHSD takes all threats seriously. If a student is found to be engaging in any threatening or violent behavior we will follow the district code of conduct, which could result in school disciplinary action and/or intervention by law enforcement.

Parents, students, staff and community members are reminded to stay vigilant and as always, report any suspicious behavior, including concerning posts on social media, to Safe2Say. Tips can be sent by phone at 844-723-2729, email at [email protected] or online at www.safe2saypa.org.
