Ninth grade baseball temporary shut down after COVID-19 case

The North Hills High School ninth grade boys’ baseball team has been temporarily shut down after a player tested positive for COVID-19. The player was last with the team at their game on Wednesday, April 7, and received the positive result earlier today, Thursday, April 8.

All 12 student-athletes on the ninth grade baseball team and others who came in close contact with the player have been instructed to quarantine in accordance with guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department. The quarantined students can return to school on Monday, April 19. As a reminder, NHSD does not issue quarantine notices but assists with contacting families so they are informed as soon as possible.

All ninth grade baseball practices and games are canceled through Saturday, April 17. Team activities can resume on Sunday, April 18. Missed games will be rescheduled when possible.

This temporary shutdown does not impact the JV or varsity baseball teams, or any other sports team.

In addition to this latest COVID-19 case and in the 24 hours since our last COVID-19 email communication, two virtual student cases were added to the district’s COVID-19 Tracker with dates of April 4 and April 5, and a North Hills Middle School student case was recorded on April 7.

With COVID-19 cases again on the rise, it is critical students and staff stay home when they are sick. In many cases, COVID-19 symptoms can present as seasonal allergies. Please err on the side of caution and stay home until symptoms completely subside or the student or staff member receives a negative COVID-19 test.
