NHSD closing all buildings amid stay-at-home advisory, Virtual instruction will continue as scheduled

PITTSBURGH -- The North Hills School District is closing all buildings effective at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 through at least Monday, Nov. 30, following a new stay-at-home advisory issued today, Wednesday, Nov. 18, by the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD).

The advisory is not mandatory but strongly encouraged to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Instruction WILL continue virtually for all students K-12 as scheduled.

Students should attend school remotely Thursday, Nov. 19, Friday, Nov. 20, Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The district will remain in Virtual as previously announced when school resumes after the Thanksgiving holiday, Tuesday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 4.

The hope is to be able to return to the Hybrid instructional model as scheduled on Monday, Dec. 7. If that is not possible, families and staff will be notified no later than Dec. 4.

Please do your part, North Hills. Please abide by the ACHD’s advisory and stay home. Limit social gatherings, avoid unnecessary travel and only leave your home for essential needs such as medical care, medications and food. And when you do leave, please always wear a mask and maintain a safe, six-feet social distance from others.

Keeping your social circle small is not easy and it’s not fun, especially with the holidays upon us, but it is crucial if we want to get our students back into our classrooms and physically in front of their teachers as soon as possible. The ability to reopen schools will be directly dictated by the actions of our community.

Sports & Activities

Effective immediately, ALL NHSD athletics and activities are suspended until further notice.

With the PIAA Winter sports season set to begin with practices on Friday, Nov. 20, this suspension will allow district administrators time to seek guidance and clarification from the ACHD, Pennsylvania Department of Health, PIAA and WPIAL on how to best navigate this next phase of the virus so we can safely resume athletics and activities as soon as possible.

All clubs and activities may continue virtual meetings during this time.

Ongoing fundraiser pickup events can also continue as scheduled at this time provided appropriate mask requirements and social distancing measures are in place.

Please look for direct communication from your coach, sponsor, club or group as additional information becomes available.
