North Hills School District records 6 new COVID-19 cases

PITTSBURGH -- The North Hills School District is reporting six new COVID-19 cases:

  • A North Hills Middle School student who was last in school on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
  • Two North Hills Middle School students who were last in school on Friday, Oct. 30.
  • A Ross Elementary School student who was last in school on Friday, Oct. 30.
  • A McIntyre Elementary School student who was last in school on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
  • A North Hills High School teacher who was last in school on Thursday, Nov. 5.

The Ross Elementary student is presumed positive. The four other students and the high school teacher each received a positive test result.

The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) has been provided with full details surrounding each case and in all cases, symptoms did not appear until several days after their last day in school.

However, some NHSD students will be required to quarantine because they came in close contact with at least one of the students above outside of school. NHSD is contacting those families directly this afternoon per the request of the ACHD.

As a reminder, the ACHD is responsible for quarantining individuals, not the district.  However, due to the heavy county caseload the district has agreed to assist in notifying families in order to make sure all information is received in a timely manner.

While no further action by the district is necessary at this time, we ask that all families students and staff members be extra vigilant about their health. If a student or family member develops any of the signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home. Students can forgo their in-person days and join their classes remotely at any time for any reason.

We also remind families to take the same precautions we have in place at school when in public. Please wear a mask, maintain a safe social distance from others and wash your hands frequently.

The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. The actions you take outside of school will help ensure we can safely keep your students in school.
