2 additional students positive for COVID-19

PITTSBURGH -- We have two new COVID-19 cases in the district to report:

  • A North Hills Middle School student who was last in school on Nov. 5.
  • A North Hills High School student who was last in school on Nov. 13.

The middle school student's symptoms began several days after the student was last in school. No further action is necessary.

The high school student was routinely tested for work and remains asymptomatic. After reviewing the details of the case, the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) has determined that a few students were in close contact as defined by the CDC with this student and are required to quarantine. NHSD has contacted those families directly at the request of the ACHD.

As a reminder, the district will shift to the Virtual operational model Wednesday, Nov. 18 through Friday, Dec. 4. All students should join their classes remotely on each school day and be sure to submit the daily attendance form.

There is no school Wednesday, Nov. 25 through Monday, Nov. 30 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

On all virtual days, students will follow the same time schedule they have followed under the Hybrid operational model. Hybrid is scheduled to resume in all buildings on Monday, Dec. 7.

While we are confident in our Hybrid operational model, it’s the community spread, specifically in Ross and West View, that prompted this temporary closure.

If we want our schools to reopen on Dec. 7, it’s more important than ever that our students, staff and families follow the guidelines we have in place in school when in the public. Please wear a mask and maintain a safe social distance from others.
