North Hills Middle School hosts mock election

PITTSBURGH -- North Hills Middle School hosted a mock election on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 to educate students about the election process and prepare them for the future. View the results here.

"This entire experience for our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at North Hills Middle School is all about the process more than politics," explained Joe Welch, an eighth grade social studies teacher at the middle school and part of the teacher team that organized the election. "We’re educating students all the necessary steps it takes to register to vote, to show up and to finally cast their ballot and really what does it look like in order to prepare them for the future."

All students had to register to vote prior to receiving a voter ID card to participate in the election. Students were checked in before being led to the middle school LGI room to cast their ballot via Google form on their district iPad.

Fully virtual students are able to vote via "mail-in (email-in)" ballot.

Great job to the eighth social studies team and poll worker student-volunteers for creating such a well-organized and authentic event.
