Daily Attendance: What’s required when my student is virtual?

PITTSBURGH -- All North Hills School District students including students enrolled in the Online Academy at North Hills are required to submit their attendance daily via this online web form beginning Monday, Aug. 31 and for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year for each school day a student is attending virtually.

Students MUST submit the attendance form between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on the school day. Submissions will be time-stamped and count as attendance on the day the response was submitted. The form will not change so it’s vital submissions are sent between these times.

The student must be logged into their North Hills Google account to view and submit the form. All students, including Online Academy students, are given a North Hills Google account.

While tracking daily attendance is important for several reasons, it is now a state requirement amid the COVID-19 pandemic so virtual instruction days count toward the state-mandated 180 days of instruction per school year. A clearly defined remote learning attendance system is also required for NHSD to receive state and federal COVID-19 relief funding the district is entitled to.

As such, we are now requiring Online Academy at North Hills students to also submit the attendance form daily, a requirement that was not necessary prior to the pandemic.

During the first week of school Aug. 24-28, NO student needs to mark their attendance.

NHSD students will be counted as attending their one in-person school day when they take possession of their iPad whether that be through the drive-through on Aug. 24 or during their in-person school day Aug. 25-28.

Attendance will be entered manually at the building level for Online Academy at North Hills students Aug. 25-28.
