North Hills High School's 'Tuck Everlasting' up for 8 Gene Kelly awards

PITTSBURGH (May 7, 2019) -- North Hills High School is up for eight Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater for its recent production of “Tuck Everlasting."

The musical, which was performed at the high school in March, is nominated in the following categories:

  • Best Musical
  • Best Scenic Design
  • Best All-Student Orchestra
  • Best Crew/Technical Execution
  • Best Execution of Choreography
  • Best Execution of Music Direction
  • Best Execution of Direction

North Hills sophomore Tyler Dumas is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

"We are ecstatic and humbled by the Gene Kelly nominations received for a show we all loved creating," said Lauren Sarazen, the musical's director. "We are also excited for the students to have the opportunity to perform on the Benedum stage!"

The Gene Kelly Awards began in 1991 as a means to recognize and encourage student achievement and to focus the attention of the community and school districts on the importance of musical theater and arts education.

This year’s awards ceremony will be held on May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts.
