North Hills senior Emma Polen wins 1st place at Pennsylvania science competition
Senior Emma Polen holding her first place PJSA awardPITTSBURGH -- North Hills High School senior Emma Polen won first place at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Region 7 competition this past Saturday.

Emma completed a chemistry experiment on the effects of sugar substitutes on Vitamin C intake. Emma also received a four-year perseverance award for competing in PJAS for four years.

A special thank you to Mrs. Staudt who helped Emma with her statistical analysis, Mrs. Biskup for the use of materials and helping Emma troubleshoot issues that arose, and Mrs. Clark for allowing Emma to use her room to complete the experiment.

Emma will move on to the state competition at Penn State University May 17-19.
