North Hills Alumni Choir Reunion and Concert set for Oct. 12
North Hills Alumni Choir performing in 2014.
PITTSBURGH – The North Hills High School choral program will host its second Alumni Choir Reunion and Concert on Saturday, October 12, 2019.  The event will be held in both the high school choir room and the middle school auditorium, as both buildings have been known as North Hills High School over the years.

The first reunion took place five years ago after a group of North Choir alumni gathered to celebrate the 85th birthday of their former director, the late Frank Cummings.  They reached out to current NHHS director Shaun Cloonan to discuss a more formal event, which took place in October 2014, and featured singers from as far back as the West View High School class of 1948, and traveling from all across the country. They shared memorabilia and stories, rehearsed, and performed a concert together.

Nearly 2,000 students have participated in the North Hills Choirs since the district’s formation in 1958, and the event is open to any who would like to participate.

There is a $25 fee per singer to cover the cost of music and a catered luncheon. Participants can register and pay online at nhchoiranddrama.net.

Cloonan plans to put together a program of selections that span the decades, focusing on pieces that have been repeated over the years that would be familiar to and are favorites of many singers. Participants are encouraged to list their favorite choir songs on the registration form. The hope is to have choir members representing as many years as possible, featuring students who sang under the direction of Alice Conner, Frank Cummings, Greg Gyllsdorf, Susan McKinney, Harriet Valliant and Shaun Cloonan.
