PITTSBURGH (May 30, 2019) -- Dr. Jessica Sapsara has been named Assistant Elementary School Principal for the North Hills School District.

Dr. Sapsara joins North Hills from neighboring Shaler Area School District where she was a teacher at Shaler Area Middle School for the last six years and mathematics department head for seventh and eighth grades.

Dr. Sapsara began her teaching career at Pittsburgh’s Career Connections Charter High School where she quickly acquired leadership opportunities holding the titles of Director of Title 1 Services, Assessment Coordinator and Director of Curriculum and Assessment during her 8-year stint at the school.

A Ross Township resident with two young son, Dr. Sapsara is ecstatic to be working in the district she calls home.

“North Hills School District has a rich tradition of excellence. As a member of the community, I am aware of the standards to which our families have for their children's education,” she said. “I am so excited to work within the schools to continue this tradition and positively impact the growth of our children.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Jessica to North Hills,” said Superintendent Dr. Patrick Mannarino. “Her involvement in the community was very attractive to us as were her leadership skills and extensive background mathematics. We look forward to Jessica improving our elementary curriculum, especially when it comes to closing the achievement gap of students struggling in math."

Dr. Sapsara received her Doctorate in Education from Duquesne University in which her thesis investigated the impact of the formative learning cycle on student self-regulation to build confidence and produce quality homework.

She received her Master of Education in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sapsara also obtained her principal certification from California University of Pennsylvania.

When she’s not working, Sapsara loves being active in the community with her husband, Mike, and their two sons, 6-year-old Brennan and 5-year-old Noah. Brennan is finishing up his kindergarten year at Ross Elementary and Noah will start kindergarten there in the fall. Both boys play soccer, baseball and hockey.

Dr. Sapsara replaces Michelle Spingola, who was promoted to McIntyre Elementary School principal effective for the 2019-20 school year. Her office will be located in McIntyre Elementary School but she will split her time across the district’s four elementary schools.
