Third-graders, are you interested in playing an instrument next year?

PITTSBURGH -- One of the most exciting aspects of spring for North Hills third-graders each year is the opportunity to choose an instrument to begin studying in fourth grade. While many things are quite different these days, the elementary instrumental music department is committed to helping students fulfill this exciting opportunity to the best of our ability.

In that effort, we have created a Google Classroom specifically for third grade students and families to guide them through the instrument fitting and selection process virtually. We ask that you join our classroom so that you and your child may explore the resources that we have posted. The Google Classroom code was sent to families via email.

Once you are part of our Google Classroom, you may click on “Classwork” and you will find many resources from program/instrument information to an online registration form to help navigate choosing the correct instrument for your student. Our goal is to make this classroom a helpful tool full of information that will help make this different way of choosing an instrument as simple as possible.

Traditionally, we have always kicked off our third-grade instrument fitting week with an instrument demonstration and information presentation at North Hills Middle School. While we cannot hold this meeting in person this year, we do invite you to participate in a Zoom version of this meeting. While we have already held two parent meetings, we have added one more for any families who were unable to attend last week. Our final Zoom parent meeting will be held Tuesday, May 12 at 7 p.m.

The link, code, and passwords needed for this meeting is listed under “classwork” in the above Google Classroom.

Our elementary instrumental music registration window is open from Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 29.

Once you register your student using the Google form located in our Google Classroom, we will be in touch in advance of the 2020-21 school year for your child’s introductory lesson. Should the possibility of an in-person “fitting” session at a local music store or through the school district present itself in the summer as a “double check,” we will notify all interested families.

Please reach out to the instrumental music teacher at your student’s school with any questions or concerns.
