Athletics, activities canceled until July 13 amid rising COVID-19 cases

PITTSBURGH -- Amid rising COVID-19 cases and following the latest order from the Allegheny County Health Department, the North Hills School District is cancelling all athletics and activities until Monday, July 13, 2020.

This decision was made in the best interest of our students, staff and families as we work to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.

The Allegheny County Health Department reported 233 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, and officials expect the number to significantly increase again on Friday. In the newest cases, ages range from 6 months to 99 years with the median age being 29. Complete information from the county is available online.

"Wearing masks, washing your hands and maintaining physical distance from others is absolutely essential to keep our community safe – now more than ever," the health department wrote in a Facebook post announcing the new cases, adding, "Please take the necessary steps to protect those around you. Your vigilance can allow us to keep our businesses open and continue to support the economy."

Athletics and activities will resume on July 13 pending changes or additional orders from the Allegheny County Health Department, the Pennsylvania Department of Health or the CDC.

The district’s Return to Play/Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and Activities Plan will be followed when athletics and activities resume.
