The North Hills School District has been awarded the 2021 Student Assistance Excellence Award from Pittsburgh-based Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry.

The award recognizes local school programs that step up in major ways to aid students and parents, especially when it comes to mental health.

“We thought North Hills was the perfect recipient because of how they went above and beyond to help the community during such an unprecedented year,” a ministry spokesperson said in announcing the award.

Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry cited the district’s Google Classroom providing parent and community mental health resources during the pandemic, organized group meditations twice weekly over Zoom, parent educational presentations focused on mental health, and overall counseling services including social/emotional, school-based and psychological for all students in grades K-12.

Specifically, the award is from the Child and Parent Place at Anchorpoint, which supports the northern PIttsburgh region and addresses childhood anxiety and depression, among other needs.
