PITTSBURGH -- A North Hills High School girls basketball coach who is also a North Hills Middle School staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The coach developed symptoms after practicing with the varsity and junior varsity girls basketball teams on Saturday, Feb. 13. The positive test result was received this morning, Sunday, Feb. 14.

The 17 student-athletes on the girls varsity and JV girls basketball teams have been instructed to quarantine for 10 days on the advice of the Allegheny County Health Department.

The varsity and JV girls basketball programs are shut down until Feb. 24. This shutdown does not impact any other athletics programs.

The staff member was last in the middle school on Friday, Feb. 12. Students and staff members required to quarantine have been notified.

Coaches who are also district employees are added to the district’s COVID-19 tracker in the building where they work if it’s different from the building where they coach. As such, this case was added to the middle school’s count with a date of Feb. 13.

This coach makes four additional COVID-19 cases since our last email communication on Feb. 7.

Two middle school student cases were recorded on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11, and a student who had not been in school was tracked as a virtual student case on Feb. 2. View our COVID-19 Tracker.
