North Hills School District fall sports underway following PIAA decision

Posted Monday, August 24, 2020

PITTSBURGH -- Fall sports in the North Hills School District get underway today, Monday, Aug. 24, following the PIAA’s decision on Friday to allow fall sports to begin.

This includes all fall varsity and JV sports including football, boys and girls soccer, cross country, boys golf, girls volleyball and girls tennis. Seventh and eighth grade middle school sports are slated to start next Monday, August 31.

Since there has not been any changes to official positions from Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agencies, the district’s Athletics and Activities Health and Safety Plan stands as approved by the North Hills School District Board of Education on June 30, 2020 and sports can begin.

No further action by the district is necessary unless the Board of Education should deem it appropriate to consider modifications.

Acting in accordance with the latest guidance from the PIAA, Allegheny County Health Department and Pennsylvania Department of Health, spectators will not be permitted at North Hills School District sporting events this fall season. This includes all practices and games.

We are working diligently to find ways to allow families to be engaged in the action on our fields including the use of live streaming.

While this fall sports season will look different than years past, we are committed to making it the best possible for our student-athletes and families.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.
