20 North Hills High School students advance to state FBLA competition

PITTSBURGH -- Twenty North Hills High School students took home top honors at the regional competition of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and will compete at the state competition in Hershey on April 5-8, 2020.

State qualifiers in both individual and team events included five first place winners:

  • Sam Caloiero, Global Business (Team Event)
  • Katie Emmons, Global Business (Team Event)
  • Paige Septak, Business Communication
  • Zak Klaczak, Sports & Entertainment Management
  • Brady Smith, Accounting II

An additional 15 students placed in their events and also advanced to states:

  • Malakai Bennett, Accounting II, 4th Place
  • Lucas Deer, Political Science, 4th Place
  • Ryan Filipcic, Business Law, 3rd Place
  • Sam Kucharski, Accounting I, 2nd Place
  • Matthew Kulka, Introduction to Business Procedures, 2nd Place
  • Adelle Loaney, Hospitality Management (Team Event), 4th Place
  • Elaina Longjohn, Hospitality Management (Team Event), 4th Place
  • Andrew Massie, Help Desk, 3rd Place
  • Katie Miller, Introduction to Information Technology, 2nd Place
  • Zach Miller, Banking & Financial Systems (Team Event), 2nd Place
  • Subaita Naher, Impromtu Speaking, 2nd Place
  • Jacob Smith, Banking & Financial Systems (Team Event), 2nd Place
  • Alex Stewart, Banking & Financial Systems (Team Event), 2nd Place
  • Anna Weidenhof, Introduction to Business Communication, 4th Place
  • Madi Zarone, Journalism, 2nd Place

High school business teachers Kellee Kanith and Nancy DiNicola advised the students.

The FBLA National Awards Program, also known as competitive events, showcases the activities and success of various business education programs across the state each year.
