The North Hills School District has once again been named a United Way Champion School District, recognizing the continued dedication of its students and staff to service and community impact.

Now in its second year, the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania's Champion School District Initiative honors districts that demonstrate exceptional collaboration and a strong commitment to community-focused programs. North Hills’ repeat recognition highlights the district’s ongoing partnership with the United Way and its efforts to make a meaningful difference for students and families.

Janice Sauers from the United Way of Southwestern PA attended the April 23 school board meeting to formally present the honor and a plaque. NHSD Director of Student and Community Engagement LaMont Lyons and students Jocelyn Sauers and Sophia Regan were also in attendance.

Several events and initiatives throughout the school year contributed to the designation, including Trunk or Treat, Hilltop Holiday Town, and an ice cream sale organized by North Hills’ Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT), which directly raised funds for the United Way. This year, the sale raised $750, $200 more than a similar sale last year.

“This continued honor is a testament to the dedication and compassion of our students, clubs, and staff,” said Mr. Lyons, who works directly with several student groups involved in the events. “Their commitment to serving others and strengthening our community is truly something to be proud of.”

As part of the recognition process, the district also submitted a video highlighting its service work and community involvement.
