Students pledge to Do No Harm, receive free t-shirt
Members of the North Hills High School Diversity Club handed out t-shirts to students who pledged to do no harm by their actions, words or thoughts during all lunches on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Students signed the pledge and were given a white t-shirt with the words "DO NO HARM" in red across the chest. The back of the shirts state, "STAND AGAINST HATE."
Introduced this school year, the Do No Harm initiative promotes kindness and inclusion in alignment with the district’s mission to foster a safe and welcoming school environment for all. Jan. 27-31 was proclaimed “Do No Harm” Week and events and activities took place throughout the district.
Also on Wednesday, Laura Meaden and Chuck Moellenberg from the Eradicate Hate Global Summit and Nick Haberman of the LIGHT Education Initiative joined Director of Student and Community Engagement LaMont Lyons in the high school cafeteria to talk to student leaders about the Do No Harm initiative and plans for the future.
The students will reconvene on March 26 at Acrisure Stadium to present their insights after attending the Eradicate Hate Student Summit last fall and its impact on the district.
The gathering will bring together representatives from 30 school districts, Eradicate Hate organizers and the Grable Foundation. Each participating school received a $1,000 grant from the Grable Foundation to support a positive initiative within their school community.
