Spring sports weekly recap: April 7-12

We are nearly halfway through April already, and the spring sports season, despite some cold weather last week, is going strong. Here is an update on our teams:

Girls' Lacrosse

The girls' lacrosse team went 2-1 last week, picking up dominant wins over Allderdice and West Allegheny. The girls are still looking for their first section win this season, as they sit at 0-4 but 5-6 overall.

Boys' Lacrosse

Boys' lacrosse posted a 1-1 record last week with their win coming in overtime against Norwin. The team is now 3-6 on the season and 0-2 in the section.

Baseball

Baseball took two out of three games from Central Catholic last week to improve to 4-7 overall (2-4 in the section). As a result, the team is tied for the fourth playoff spot in 6A entering this week.

Softball

The varsity softball team went 1-2 last week, falling to Shaler Area and Plum in section play. However, a section victory over Fox Chapel keeps North Hills in the top three with a record of 3-2 (8-3 overall).

Track & Field

Varsity track and field competed at Seneca Valley last week, then ran in the TSTCA Invitational over the weekend. Top five finishers included the girls' 4X400 relay (2nd place), Avery Dixon (5th, 800M), Gama Mogire (2nd, 110M hurdles), Alex Walker (4th, high jump), Jack Martin (5th, javelin).

Boys' Volleyball

Boys' volleyball posted a 2-1 record last week that has vaulted them into a first-place section tie. Wins over Fox Chapel and Penn Hills last week have the Indians at 3-1 in the section (4-6 overall).

Boys' Tennis

Poor weather interfered with the tennis schedule last week, so the boys were only able to play one match, which was a loss to Pine-Richland. The team is 3-7 overall this spring,

Flag Football

The girls' flag football team hosted games over the weekend and went 0-2 in their games against Shaler Area and Mars. The varsity team is now 1-5 this season.

6:00 - Girls' Varsity Lacrosse vs Pine-Richland (Martorelli Stadium)

Thursday, April 17

12:00 - Varsity Baseball vs Seneca Valley (Guadagnino Field)

4:00 - Varsity Softball vs New Castle (McIntyre Field)

5:30 - Boys' JV Lacrosse vs Canon-McMillan (Martorelli Stadium)
