It is with deep sadness that the North Hills School District and transportation contractor ABC Transit, Inc. announce the passing of beloved school bus driver, Louis Hutmire.

Louis was the driver of NHSD bus 698, transporting students to and from Highcliff and Ross elementary schools, North Hills Middle School, North Hills High School and A.W. Beattie Career Center. He also drove students to countless games, competitions and other events outside the district.

His upbeat attitude and kind personality made him a favorite among students. He had a big heart and truly loved connecting with others.

"Mr. Louis," as he was affectionately called, joined ABC Transit in 2017 and drove for North Hills School District for all eight of those years. He was a proud district resident with three children who graduated from North Hills and took immense pride in transporting NHSD students.

"Louis always made an effort to connect with the families he transported and felt honored to play such a key role in their children's education," said Kristen Anthony, Vice President of Operations for ABC Transit.

Outside of work, Louis was a dedicated husband to his wife, Jennifer, a loving father to Andrew, Benjamin, and Jonathan, and a fun-loving grandfather to Jenny and Alyssa.

"Louis embraced life with enthusiasm, always putting a smile on people’s faces with his jokes or by lightening the mood in tough situations," Anthony added. "He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him."

Louis passed away early on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.

School counselors will be available to any student needing support or someone to talk to.

The North Hills School District extends our deepest condolences to Mr. Hutmire's family and friends during this difficult time.
