Three North Hills High School students were honored in the 2025 Scholastic Writing Awards.

Sophomore Parker Pile received a Gold Key, the competition’s highest honor, for her writing "One for Sorrow, Two for Mirth." The flash fiction piece has moved on to the national judging. National winners will be announced March 26.

Senior Dylan Hogan received two Honorable Mentions in the contest for his personal essay and memoir "A Walk on the Lake" and poem "Fool’s Gold."

Junior Faith McAtee’s short story "Helios" also received Honorable Mention.

Touted as the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards honors students in grades 7-12 in 28 different categories of art and writing.

Entries are selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. They look for works that exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Gold Key is the competition’s highest ranking followed by Silver Key and Honorable Mention.

Winning writers will be recognized in a special ceremony at Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse on March 22.
