Throughout the school year the North Hills School District receives requests for photographs of and/or interviews with students for use in local print and broadcast media. In addition, students’ photos and/or names are used in a variety of North Hills communications such as the district website, newsletters, social media outlets, calendar and other publications designed to inform the community about school programs and student achievement.

If parents or guardians do not wish to have their child photographed, videotaped, or interviewed, they must notify their child’s principal in writing by Sept. 15 each school year.

North Hills School District recognizes the importance of making its digital services available to the largest possible audience and has attempted to design this website to be accessible by everyone. This website was coded to comply with both the Americans With Disabilities Act and conformance to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.

Along with conformance-level compliance, efforts have been made to ensure compatibility with common technologies utilized by the adaptive community. This site has been tested for compliance with screen magnification software, screen-reading software and text-only browsers.

North Hills School District will continue to test future releases of this site and remains committed to maintaining its compliance and serving the widest possible audience for North Hills School District's services.

If you cannot fully access the information on any web page of this site, please contact the Director of Communications. We will try to provide the information to you in an alternate format or make the necessary improvements to make the information accessible.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a Federal law, requires that North Hills School District, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child’s education records. However, North Hills School District may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent, unless you have advised the district to the contrary in accordance with district procedures.

The primary purpose of directory information is to allow the North Hills School District to include this type of information from your child’s education records in certain school publications.

Examples include:

• A playbill showing the student’s role in a drama production
• The annual yearbook
• Honor roll or other recognition lists
• Graduation programs
• Sports activity sheets, such as for wrestling, showing weight and height of team members
• School directories

Directory information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, can also be disclosed to outside organizations without a parent’s prior written consent. Outside organizations include, but are not limited to, companies that manufacture class rings or publish yearbooks.

In addition, two federal laws require local educational agencies (LEAs) receiving assistance under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) to provide military recruiters, upon request, with the following information – names, addresses and telephone listings – unless parents have advised the LEA that they do not want their student’s information disclosed without their prior written consent.*

If you do not want North Hills School District to disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your prior written consent, you must notify the student's school in writing by Sept. 15 of each school year.

North Hills School District has designated the following information as directory information:

• Student's name
• Address
• Phone number
• Email address
• Picture
• Grade level
• Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
• Weight and height of members of athletic teams
• Degrees, honors and awards received
• Most recent educational agency or institution attended
