Middle School Clubs & Activities

North Hills Middle School offers several clubs and activities through the school year. 

Semester Clubs
Each semester, all students are required to sign up for a club that meets during the school day 4-5 times during the semester. The clubs can vary semester to semester and year to year based on student interest. Club sign ups take place as communicated at the beginning of each semester. Students can sign up for a new club or a previously chosen club each semester. 

Traditional Clubs
The middle school offers several traditional extracurricular clubs in addition to each student’s semester club. These groups often meet and host events outside of the regular school day.

2025-26 Semester 1 Clubs

First semester club sign ups will take place during homeroom on Tuesday, Sept. 9. All middle school students will sign up for a chosen club from the list here. Each club has a limited number of slots available, so students should be prepared with multiple possibilities. 

First semester clubs will meet on the following dates following the Activity bell schedule here.

Traditionals Clubs

Art Club

Art Club hosts several afterschool art workshops that anyone can sign up for. the workshops and generally two days for about an hour after school (3-4 p.m.) each day.
September 2025
Thursday, Sept. 11 and Monday, Sept. 15 | 3-4 p.m.
Students will create abstract acrylic paintings with a dish soap/spray paint resist technique. This is an activity that requires some time outdoors so please dress accordingly. Sign up here.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is open to all middle school students (band, chorus, orchestra, and general music). Students must do a vocal range test with the director for part/section assignments in order to participate. Concert Choir meets on Tuesdays after school from 3-4 p.m., and those in the group must commit to attending weekly rehearsals. This ensemble performs at the middle school choral concerts and joins the eighth grade band, wind ensemble and eight grade orchestra at the end of the school year for a judged performance either at the High Note festival at Duquesne University & Kennywood Park or the Music in the Parks festival in Hershey.

Drama Club

Drama Club presents a musical production annually during the last weekend in January. These musicals are shortened versions of full-scale shows and are designed specifically for middle school voices. In addition to the cast members performing on stage, a tech crew is selected as part of the Drama Club to build set pieces and manage the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show, such as scene changes, light and sound operation. Auditions are held for the cast at the end of October. 
 
History Club

For eighth grade students. American History Club members discuss topics applicable to current events, primary sources, and/or historic events. The club also organizes building-wide historic and civic-based events such as the mock election. Field trips to historic sites may also be planned.

Jazz Band

Middle School Jazz Band is an extracurricular club open to any current band student in grades 6-8. Students learn music in many styles, centered around jazz. Additional instruments include drum set, piano, guitar, and bass. Selections are made by audition. Music reading ability is essential. Practices are once a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and there are four evening concerts per year.

Service Club

Open to interested sixth, seventh and eighth grade students, Service Club will meet at least once a month during homeroom throughout the school year. Service projects may include organizing a school-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive, creating crafts and gifts for local nursing home patients, selling Valentine lollipops during all lunches and proceeds to benefit the Reflections Of Grace Foundation... and much more!

Student Council consists of homeroom representatives which help in the following areas:

  • Art Committee - Decorates the school
  • Service Committee - Organizes school-wide activities
  • Community Committee - Arranges the Holiday Food Drive
  • Spirit Committee - Works to create a positive school atmosphere

Yearbook

Yearbook Club meets primarily during the second semester to help design and create the school yearbook. Students will learn basic photography skills, including how to take and edit photos, along with graphic layout, computer and organizational skills. No prior experience is required — everyone is welcome to participate! Students can choose Yearbook as their second semester club. Additional meetings are held as needed.
