What are our options for instruction?

Traditional

  • Total reopen for students and staff
  • In-person teaching and learning 5 days a week

Blended

  • Reopen for students using a combination of in-person and virtual instruction based on the student's grade level
    • High School (Grades 9-12) - Option 1
      • Hybrid schedule with students divided into 2 groups for in-person instruction from 7:20 a.m. to 2 p.m. based on last name
        • Group A (Students with the last names beginning with A-L) will report for in-person instruction on Monday and Tuesday and will engage in remote learning Wednesday, Thursday and Friday*
        • Group B (Students with the last names beginning with M-Z) will report for in-person instruction on Thursday and Friday and will engage in remote learning Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday*
    • High School (Grades 9-12) - Option 2
      • Traditional schedule with students assigned to Cafeteria A, Cafeteria B and Middle School Cafeteria to ensure students remain 6 feet apart during lunch as students will be eating without masks
    • Middle School (Grades 6-8)
      • Students attend school and receive in-person instruction daily from 7:50 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
      • Four periods take place in-person each day as follows:
        • Day A: Periods 1-4
        • Day B: Periods 5-9 (minus student’s lunch period)
      • Students are dismissed and transported home at 11:45 a.m. where they will engage in 2 hours of virtual learning
      • Lunch will not be provided but may be ordered by all students to take home
    • Elementary School (Grades K-5 Highcliff and West View)
      • Students attend school and receive in-person instruction daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
      • Students are dismissed and transported home at 12 p.m. where they will engage in 2 hours of virtual learning
      • Lunch will not be provided but may be ordered by all students to take home
    • Elementary School (Grades K-5 McIntyre and Ross)
      • Students attend school and receive in-person instruction daily from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
      • Students are dismissed and transported home at 12:45 p.m. where they will engage in 2 hours of virtual learning
      • Lunch will not be provided but may be ordered by all students to take home

Hybrid

  • Reopen for students to attend school 2 days in-person and 3 days virtually
  • Students will be divided into 2 groups based on last name
    • Group A (Students with the last names beginning with A-L)
      • Report for in-person instruction on Monday and Tuesday*
      • Engage in remote learning Wednesday, Thursday and Friday*
    • Group B (Students with the last names beginning with M-Z)
      • Report for in-person instruction on Thursday and Friday*
      • Engage in remote learning Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday*

Virtual

  • 100 percent virtual teaching and learning

*Schedule will be adjusted on weeks that include scheduled holidays, in-service or teacher professional development days

When can we use them?

The operational model we implement is dependant on the current reopening phase of Allegheny County:

  • Red: Virtual model only
  • Yellow: Blended, Hybrid or Virtual models
  • Green: Traditional, Blended, Hybrid or Virtual models
