Frequently Asked Questions

In the simplest terms, how does NutriKids/MySchoolBucks.com work?

Nutrikids is a Point of Service lunch counting and payment system purchased by the North Hills School District Food Service. It is for all children - paid, reduced and free as well as teachers and staff members. One of the major advantages is the elimination of lunch tickets. This way, all students are identified only in the computer system if they are PAID, REDUCED or FREE participants.

What if I don’t want to use PayPal? How can I put money into my child’s account?

You may put money on the account by sending cash or a check to school with your child. The money will be deposited in your child’s account at no extra cost. Remember, there is a convenience fee for each payment transaction for all online payments for the whole family, no matter how much you are depositing. Make sure each child name is included and how much money onto their account. If you have students in elementary, middle school or the high school, please send checks to the appropriate buildings.

What if I have more than one child?

The online system allows you to enter each child separately and determine how much money goes into the account. If you choose to send cash or checks, send to the appropriate buildings with the dollar amount specified for each child.

My son has a peanut allergy. Does NutriKids/MySchoolBucks.com show that?

If we are informed of a child’s special dietary need, it will be programmed into the system to alert the food services personnel.

What if I forget my pin number? Better yet, what if my child forgets his/her pin number?

First, the PIN number will stay for your child throughout his/her school career. It is on file in the Food Services office. If your child forgets it at lunch, we can look them up by last name or classroom assignment. But, in other school districts using these systems, they report students knowing their PIN numbers like their own names.

How will I know if the account is low on money?

If it is an older student, we will inform them on the lunch line, younger students will have letters generated to come home.

Can I limit how much my child spends?

Yes, you may set a spending limit or not allow any extra purchases at all.

Can my child buy "extras" using this system?

Yes, money can be used for "extras" or à la carte items, and we can track your child’s spending. If you qualify for free/reduced lunches, you may still add money to an account for "extras."

Will cash still be accepted?

Yes, at any time for a lunch or "extras" transaction. However, we strongly recommend having an account as it is MUCH easier for your child.

What if my child has a free or reduced lunch?

Free and reduced students MUST reapply for the program each year. A new application must be received within the first 30 days of the school year. Otherwise, your child will be removed from the program.

If I have money in accounts for multiple children, can I transfer money between these accounts?

Yes, but only by calling the Foods Service Department at 412-318-1053.

If I have money remaining in the student accounts at the end of the school year, what happens to that money?

The money will roll over into next year and remain in your child’s account.

If I decide to put money on my child’s account, who do I make the check out to?

NHSD - FOOD SERVICE
