The goal of the North Hills School District's Continuity of Education Plan for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year is to continue to educate our students through May 29, 2020, the last scheduled day of the school year. Following Gov. Tom Wolf's announcment on April 9 to keep schools closed for the remainder of the school year, the instruction will be 100 percent virtual.
Highlights include:
- Teachers will focus on the most essential elements of the curriculum and plan virtual lessons that are sensitive to the needs of their students and families.
- Student assessments will focus more on students' thought processes and understanding than the accuracy of their response or the acquisition of points.
- School Board Policy 213 - Grading has been suspended. We will ratify a pass/fail grading system for K-12 as detailed in the plan at the April 16 Board of Education meeting.
- Several Independent Learning days are built into the schedule. Independent Learning days are still school days but are designed to allow students time to catch up and submit assignments, complete project-based learning activities, contact teachers for additional assistance or attend Zoom office hours. There is no new instruction. Students must still log their attendance on Independent Learning days.
