North Hills School District high school students have
expanded their annual THON Dance Marathon to three separate events in March
including a THON that is open and free to the public.The high school’s Student Council and Hands for Service Club will host their fifth annual THON for students in Grades 9 to 12 from 5 to 11 p.m. on March 2 and the first THON Jr. for students in Grades 7 and 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 1. Community members are invited to the first Community THON on March 2 from 12 to 3 p.m.
All three events will be held in North Hills Middle School
gymnasiums and will include dancing, inflatables, games and food. The Community
THON also will feature family-friendly carnival games and a basket raffle.

All three events will raise funds for Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. In the past four years, the high school’s THON has raised more than $40,000 for charity.
Donations of food items to feed dancers who will be on their feet for 12 hours also are being accepted and can be dropped off at the high school athletic and activities office through March 1. See

The dance marathons are based on the legendary and
successful dance marathon, THON, held at Penn State University each year. At
the North Hills event, each dancer is required to pay an entrance fee, but
participants are encouraged to raise as much as they can to support the two charitable
organizations benefiting from the dance marathon. Motivated and caring participants
will stay on their feet dancing, moving and playing games while helping youth
and children affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
