As we approach the winter season, North Hills School
District officials would like to remind you about our inclement weather
procedures.

The decision to call a delay schedule or cancelation is
one that we take very seriously. We must take into account numerous factors
including current road and weather conditions, temperature and wind-chill
factors as well as the forecast. Typically, the decision to delay or cancel
school is made prior to 5:30 a.m. However, there are occasions that changing
road/weather conditions will necessitate a later decision.

Our delay schedule is:
- North Hills High School classes begin at 8:50 a.m. (Buses
will be delayed 1 hour and 30 minutes.)
- North Hills Middle School classes begin at 9:35 a.m. (Buses will be delayed 1 hour and 45 minutes.)
- Highcliff Elementary and West View Elementary classes begin
at 10:30 a.m. (Buses will be delayed two hours.)
- McIntyre Elementary and Ross Elementary classes begin at
11:15 a.m. (Buses will be delayed two hours.)
All buses will be delayed for the same amount of time as your student's school.
All non-public school buses including charter schools will
be delayed two hours except for Eden Christian School - Mt. Nebo Campus,
which will follow the high school delay schedule.
In the event of a delay schedule, A.W. Beattie Career
Center also will be canceled.

In the event of a school cancelation, the elementary school’s six-day schedule will not skip days. (For example: School is closed on a Day 4. The next day when students return will be a Day 4. All days will shift forward for the remainder of the school year.) Elementary lunch menus will be updated and reposted online to reflect changes in the six-day schedule.
Morning Care will not be available at elementary buildings
on days when a delay schedule is called, however cold breakfast options
(cereal, fruit, etc.) will be available during the following hours:
- High School - 8:45 to 10:15 a.m. Breakfast sandwiches also
will be available.
- Middle School - 9:10 to 9:25 a.m. Breakfast sandwiches also
will be available.
- West View and Highcliff - 10:15 to 10:30 a.m.
- McIntyre and Ross – 11 to 11:15 a.m.

We communicate a delay schedule or cancelation by
utilizing our:

- District website - Information regarding delay
schedules/cancelations is posted prominently on the district’s website.
Information is available here before anywhere else.

Email notification is sent to all E-link subscribers. Individuals can
subscribe using multiple email addresses.
- Automated
Phone and Text Message System - Automated phone calls and text messages between 5 and 6 a.m. Please be aware that a cell phone number must be listed on your student's account and noted as a cell phone number to receive text messages. If you would like added to or removed from the call/text list, please contact your child's school building and have the following information ready:
- Student's Name
- School
- Number you would like to be added or deleted
- App - A push notification is send to all devices who have downloaded the district's app and opted in for push notifications.
- Facebook - A status update is added to the
district’s Facebook
page.
- Twitter - A tweet is sent to all @north_hills subscribers.
In addition, the district notifies the three local
television news stations (KDKA, WTAE, WPXI) of all delays and cancelations.
However, please understand that the district does not control how quickly
information is updated on-air.
