North Hills High School digital immersion theater will
welcome community members in December for shows aimed at specific age groups. A
double feature of two back-to-back shows will be shown on the 24-foot dome on Dec.
7, 15 and 21. “George and Oatmeal Save Santa” starts at 6:30 p.m. and is
targeted for children from preschool through elementary age. “Solar Quest” will
follow at 7:15 p.m. and is appropriate for older children through adults.
In “George and Oatmeal Save Santa,” Santa Claus has not come
back from his yearly globetrotting trip, and Oatmeal the Snowman must ask
George the Wizard to help find Old St. Nick using magic from the stars to guide
Santa around the world. This North Hills tradition has been animated by
students in Casper, Wyo., and returns for another year on our full dome.
“Solar Quest”
demonstrates how the Sun and Earth are interconnected and discusses the impacts
of space weather, Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field and solar flares.
All shows are free and open to the public, but all digital
immersion theater shows require reservations. Reservations can be made by
calling 412-318-1000 ext. 3166 or emailing [email protected]. If no
reservations have been made by the end of the last school day prior to the
show, the presentation will be canceled. Group reservations for community
organizations are accepted, and special events for community members and groups
can be scheduled.
The North Hills High School digital immersion theater is
located on the third floor of the high school at 53 Rochester Road in Ross
Township. The gift shop that supports
the North Hills High School Astronomy Club will be open for all shows.
North Hills remains one of only a few districts across the
state to offer a digital immersion theater for educational and community
outreach purposes in a public high school. It is overseen by high school
teacher Karen Grumski.
