87 North Hills Students Named AP Scholars, Two Students Earned National AP Scholar Honors

The College Board has named 87 North Hills High School seniors and recent graduates AP Scholars following their outstanding performances on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) exams. This number marks a 34 percent increase in AP Scholars at North Hills over the 2015-16 school year.

At North Hills High School, 266 students took 478 AP exams in May 2017, and nearly 70 percent scored 3 or above on the exams’ five-point scale earning college credit.

Recent graduates Alec Duquette and Nathaniel Salopek were named National AP Scholars for earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more exams. This honor places these graduates among the nation’s most elite academic performers.

A total of 23 students also were named AP Scholars with Distinction after receiving an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams. North Hills AP Scholars with Distinction are Class of 2017 graduates Kathryn Botterman, Brian Fulton, Matthew Reslink, Rubitzel Brunet, William Huffmyer, Nathaniel Salopek, Kristen Collins, Anastasia July, Ingrid Spear, Alec Duquette, Kaitlyn Kurz, Kyle Swartzbaugh, Madeline Evans, Jamie Ley, Allison Traynor, Mark Faller, Ryan McCabe, Brian Venturella, Andrew Feltz and Bridget McCole and seniors Adyn Gallagher, Aliana Rao and Neville Wolff.

19 additional students were named AP Scholars with Honor after receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken or scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. North Hills AP Scholars with Honor are Class of 2017 graduates Anna Emmons, Allina Molinaro, Brooklynn Goodworth, Mary Rodack, William Heintz, Faith Ruck, Christopher Manko, Anton Sarazen, Emily McGurgan and Brianna Saul and seniors Adam Taschner, Kelsey Davis, Valeria Tupac Yupanqui, Evan Kerin, Aletheia Uechi, Alexis Mandell, John Van Atta, Joseph Pastorius and Neil Wible.

A total of 45 students were named AP Scholars by receiving a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. North Hills AP Scholars are Class of 2017 graduates Rebecca Averell, Anna McConnell, Gianna Balsamico, Kristopher McEwen, Hayley Behr, Ava Pietrzyk, Katelyn Brittain, Meghan Reith, Brendan Burke, Nicholas Rossmiller, Luke Chutko, Jarod Rozanski, Sara Custer, Hannah Schilpp, Kenleigh Dickinson, Monica Snyder, Sydney Dominek, Austin Sopher, Zachary Hood, Anna Treser, Shea Jones, Rachel Vandevort, Alyse Kaminski, Martin Varys, Kelsey Klaja, Andrew Wudarczyk and Molly Marciniak and seniors Maria Arlia, Callie McClintock, Erika Degraef, Dillon McElwain, Alex Glatz, Ryan McIntyre, Logan Graham, Lauren Rebel, Jordyn Hronec, Shane Riley, Alexis Ligus, Camille Traczek, Samantha Logan, Eleanor Urich, Andrew Longjohn, Greta Zewe, Mackenzie MacFarland and Payton Carroll.

North Hills offers students 27 AP courses. These courses are in addition to the building’s 21 College in High School courses, two pre-Advanced Placement classes and 19 honors courses.

Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement or both based on successful performance on the AP Exams. More than 3,200 institutions award a full year’s credit (sophomore standing) to students presenting a sufficient number of qualifying grades in the more than 30 AP exams available.
