Eighth-Grade Artist Wins National Honor
Water Cascading on Spoon ArtworkNorth Hills Middle School eighth-grader Emma Gallagher has been honored on the national level for her artistic talent as a 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Medalist. Emma’s photo “Liquid Crystals” was selected by creative professionals as one of the most accomplished in the nation. Her artwork was judged alongside the best student artwork in the United States.

Less than one percent of artists out of nearly 350,000 submissions to the competition are awarded its highest honor and only 3,300 medals are awarded nationwide.

Gold Key Awards, the state-level competition recognition, were awarded to eighth-graders Kevin Tian and Quinn Peters following the regional Allies for Young Artists & Writers competition at La Roche College’s Zappala Center.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition has been recognizing creative teenagers from across the United States since 1923.
