Important Information Regarding Possible Student Transportation Changes

Dear North Hills and Shaler Area families,

In recent days, North Hills and Shaler Area school district officials were notified by First Student, our contracted transportation provider, of the POSSIBILITY that the company’s 170 bus drivers could go on strike as early as May 15.

If a strike occurs, classes in both North Hills and Shaler Area will go on as scheduled through the end of each district’s school year. However, families will be responsible to provide transportation for their students.

On April 23, First Student bus drivers at the company’s Hahn Road location, who are represented by Teamsters Local #249, rejected the company’s best and final contract offer. The parties are in the process of scheduling bargaining sessions along with representatives from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

At this time, we do not anticipate that a strike will occur and will make every effort to keep our communities informed. We appreciate your understanding and patience, and we will update you as soon as possible on any developments related to this situation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Patrick J. Mannarino

Superintendent

North Hills School District

Dr. Wesley W. Shipley

Superintendent of Schools

Shaler Area School District
