PSAT/NMSQT Score Reports Arriving Week of Dec. 11
North Hills High School is excited to offer the PSAT/NMSQT each October free of charge to Grade 10 and 11 students. While students are encouraged to explore the many different post-secondary paths available after graduation, our students are administered this test in order to assist with preparing for the college entrance exams (SAT and ACT) that many might wish to take later in their high school careers. This is also done to promote equity and access to post-secondary studies for all students.

The PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is highly relevant to a student’s future success because it focuses on the skills and knowledge at the heart of education. They measure:

  • What you learn in high school
  • What you need to succeed at the post-secondary level
  • We urge all students and parent/guardians to review the information found there, the forthcoming score reports, and the more detailed information that can be found here on the College Board’s website. You are encouraged to contact the school counseling department at 412-318-1434 with questions as well.

PSAT/NMSQT Score Reports and Practice

The results of the PSAT/NMSQT are sent to high schools and to students the following December after the annual test. THE PSAT/NMSQT SCORE REPORTS ARE SENT TO STUDENTS VIA EMAIL ONLY (provided students indicated a valid email on test day). North Hills is provided with all of the student access code and can provide if needed.

North Hills does indeed wish to help students and parent interpret the score reports when they arrive. Our English teachers reiterates the importance of the PSAT score reports using a variety of lessons and videos. You can also review these videos and the PowerPoint as well.

If students think the key to a high score is memorizing words and facts they’ll never use in the real world, think again. They don’t have to discover secret tricks or cram the night before. Some of the more effective way to prepare for the test are to:

  • Take challenging courses (including those SAT and ACT prep courses offered by NH!)
  • Do your homework
  • Prepare for tests and quizzes
  • Ask and answer lots of questions

In short, take charge of your education and learn as much as you can.

However, the best practice is free. The Official SAT Practice is available via Khan Academy and the code found on your PSAT score report can create individualized study plan that focuses on exactly what you need to work on most. Click here to practice now. The program includes:
