Digital Immersion Theater to Hold Double Features in September

North Hills High School digital immersion theater will welcome community members in September. A double feature of two back-to-back shows will be shown on the 24-foot dome on Sept. 13, 18 and 22. “Sunstruck” starts at 6:30 p.m. and “Two Pieces of Glass” will follow at 7:15 p.m.

“Sunstruck” includes discussions and videos from the recent solar eclipse in August. The show takes viewers on a journey to discover the wonders of the sun and investigate how it has supported life on Earth for millennia.

“Two Pieces of Glass” tells how the telescope helped us understand our place in space and continues to expand our understanding of the universe. It details how telescopes work and how the largest observatories in the world use them.

All shows are free and open to the public, but all digital immersion theater shows require reservations. Reservations can be made by calling 412-318-1000 ext. 3166 or emailing grumskik@nhsd.net. If no reservations have been made by the end of the last school day prior to the show, the presentation will be canceled. Group reservations for community organizations are accepted, and special events for community members and groups can be scheduled.

The North Hills High School digital immersion theater is located on the third floor of the high school at 53 Rochester Road in Ross Township. The gift shop that supports the North Hills High School Astronomy Club will be open for all shows.

North Hills remains one of only a few districts across the state to offer a digital immersion theater for educational and community outreach purposes in a public high school. It is overseen by high school teacher Karen Grumski.
