Middle school teachers Joe Welch, Larry Dorenkamp, Rick Texter and Rick Roth, middle school principal David Lieberman and assistant superintendent for secondary education Dr. Johannah Vanatta were selected to present information about Project Connect, NHSD's 1:1 iPad initiative, to fellow middle school teachers and administrators from across the state.
At the Pennsylvania Association for Middle Level Education conference, Mr. Lieberman and Dr. Vanatta spoke about the rollout of Project Connect, while our teachers highlighted one of the many ways they use the device daily with a presentation on Digital Storytelling. They created the informative video below to explain more about Project Connect and the many ways it has changed education every day for our students!
Additionally, Joe Welch recently led a national webinar titled “Digital Storytelling with Stop Motion Animation for Digital Innovators” in his role as a PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator for Pennsylvania. He is one of only 52 educators serving in this important role across the U.S. and its territories.
High school principal Beth Williams, guidance counselor Nicole Weber and Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. David Barkovich are spreading North Hills' innovative methods across the country!
The trio was chosen to present the Teaching Matter Conference at Gordon State College outside of Atlanta. They also will present at the National Academic Advising Association's regional conference in Pittsburgh later this month. North Hills is one of only two high schools chosen to present from our region which includes FIVE states!
Their presentation "Academies of North Hills High School - Personally Preparing College and Career Ready Students" teaches attendees how to create academies that include personalized learning pathways that incorporate student choice as students pursue educational goals and aspirations.
