North Hills School District is accepting registration for its summer educational programs. The district’s Online Academy @ North Hills, which is open to students throughout southwest Pennsylvania, is offering 38 online courses for students in grades seven to 12.
The Online Academy offers summer classes for credit recovery in math, English, science, social studies and health. Credit recovery courses are intended for students who were not able to achieve a passing grade during the school year. Classes begin on June 26.
In addition, the Online Academy provides full-credit enrichment courses in health, language arts, mathematics, keystone algebra I, keystone literature, keystone biology, physical education, digital photography, teen transitions and driver’s education (theory only). The online academy will also offer SAT/ACT Verbal Prep in which the emphasis is based on weekly vocabulary and etymology lessons and review of SAT/ACT-testing strategies. Students will receive access to the official SAT Online study course with their enrollment in this course, a $69.95 value. The online course includes full-length practice tests, interactive activities and automated essay scoring. The online academy also will offer world language courses in Chinese, German and Latin.
Tuition for credit recovery courses is $115 for a three-week, half-credit course and $235 for a six-week, one-credit course. Tuition for the eight-week, for-credit courses range from $200 to $399.
The curriculum for each course is aligned to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards, Assessment Anchors and Eligible Content. PSSA and Keystone Exam instructional strategies have been embedded throughout each course.
