North Hills Promotes Career Opportunities Available in Trade Industries During Annual Fair

North Hills High School held its third annual Trade Unions Fair in late January to expose students to the wide variety of careers career paths within in-demand trade industries in the area.

In partnership with the Builders Guild of Western Pennsylvania, which promotes tuition-free apprenticeship programs from 17 different area trade unions, high school technology education teacher James Cassandro and Dean of Students David Barkovich spearheaded and planned the fair.

The fair provided hundreds of students enrolled in the high school’s technology education classes greater access to information and networking opportunities available in the rewarding and valuable trade fields.

Representatives from nine unions spoke to students about the tuition-free, highly competitive apprenticeship spots that combine classroom study with paid on-the-job training available in their industries.

The fair included representatives from nine trade unions:

  • Cement Masons Union Local 526
  • Plumbers Local Union #27
  • Steamfitters Local Union 449
  • Sheet Metal Industry of Western Pa.
  • Operating Engineers Local Union #66
  • Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local Union No. 2
  • Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9
  • Greater Pittsburgh Regional Council of Carpenters
  • Duquesne Light Electrical Union IBEW #29
