H1N1 Flu Virus confirmed in North Hills Today – Thursday, Oct. 8th – the North Hills School District learned of its first confirmed case of the swine flu for the 2009-10 school year. The student attends McIntyre Elementary School. However, there are students throughout the district who are also experiencing flu-like symptoms. The district has been closely monitoring attendance rates for all school buildings throughout the last few weeks. To date, absentee rates for all buildings have been in the normal range of 2-6 percent daily. If you or any member of your family experience flu-like symptoms, you are encouraged to contact your family physician. As always, the best defense against communicable disease is proper hand-washing. For the last several months, our nursing staff has promoted proper hand hygiene through the use of Henry the Hand posters in our elementary schools. Posters featured the following four principles of hand awareness: • WASH your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating. • DO NOT cough into your hands. • DO NOT sneeze into your hands. • Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose or mouth! Information regarding the H1N1 virus is available on the North Hills School District website. Please click the link below.
