Before & After School Care
Morning Care Program

In order to better meet the needs of busy families, the North Hills School District offers a Morning Care program in each of its elementary schools. The program operates from:

  • 6:45 to 8:15 a.m. at Highcliff and West View - The building opens to all students at 8:15 a.m.
  • 7:15 to 8:55 a.m. at Ross and McIntyre - The building opens to all students at 8:55 a.m.

Free Before-School Program

NHSD also provides a free Before-School Program from 8:40 to 8:55 a.m. only at the McIntyre and Ross elementary schools. The car rider dropoff time is 8:55 a.m.; school starts at 9:15 a.m.

The district will continue to offer its Morning Care program at McIntyre and Ross elementary schools from 7:15 to 8:55 a.m. The cost per child for the Morning Care program is $3.50 per day. For more information on the Morning Care program, please contact the Food Services department at 412-318-1053.

*Please note that Morning Care and Before-School Care programs are NOT available during on days with a delay schedule.

After-School Care

After-school care is available to all North Hills elementary students in their respective schools until 6 p.m. on school days. The program is operated by the North Boroughs YMCA - call 412-761-1227 for more information. Registration forms for the YMCA after-school program are available in the Downloads column.

North Hills School District also provides a district-sponsored free After-School Program only at Highcliff and West View elementary schools. All students who are utilizing the NHSD After-School Program at West View and Highcliff will need to be picked up by a parent at or before 3:30 p.m. Parents must register for the NHSD free After-School Program to ensure sufficient staff is available to supervise students. Only students who have registered will be permitted to use the program. Please register by filling out the NHSD Free After-School Program Registration Form available in the Downloads column and returning it to your student's school office by Sept. 1 of every school year. A new form must be filled out each year.

What is the Morning Care Program?

In order to meet the needs of working parents or families with busy schedules, North Hills School District offers a Morning Care Program for elementary schools before the school day begins. Students can choose to study or read quietly, participate in games and other activities or view educational programs. Pre-registration is not required and students may attend as frequently as they choose.

Who is eligible to participate?

Students enrolled at any of the district’s four elementary schools can participate in the Morning Care Program. Each school has a designated area for the program, which is supervised by district personnel.

Do students in the Morning Care Program need to attend on a regular basis?

No. Parents can take advantage of the program as much or as little as they choose. Working parents may opt to use the program for their children on a regular basis, while other parents may use it occasionally such as on the day of an early dental appointment. No advance registration is required.

What is the fee?

The fee for each student is $3.50 a day or $17.50 a week. Morning Care payment is deducted from the student’s account.

What are the hours of operation?

The Morning Care Program hours are:

  • 6:45 a.m. - 8:10 a.m. at Highcliff and West View – The building is open to all students at 8:15 a.m.
  • 7:15 a.m. - 8:55 a.m. at Ross and McIntyre – The building is open to all students at 8:55 a.m.

The program is available on each day that school is in session. Students not enrolled in the Morning Care Program will not be permitted on school grounds or to enter the building unsupervised prior to the building opening. This is for their safety. Any student who enters the building prior to the building opening will be sent to Morning Care, and his/her account will be charged $3.50.

Is breakfast served during the Morning Care Program?

Yes. In conjunction with the Morning Care Program, the district operates a Breakfast Program for an additional fee. An elementary student can participate in either one or both simultaneously.

What are the Breakfast Program hours for students participating in the Morning Care Program?

  • 7:50 - 8:10 a.m.  at Highcliff and West View
  • 8 to 8:55 a.m. at McIntyre and Ross
