Academy Resources for Currently Enrolled Academy Students

This information is intended for students currently enrolled in the Academies at North Hills. It contains information regarding documentation and updates regarding the Academies. Please visit it often.

Please be sure that you understand the following basic expectations:

  • You must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA or higher during your enrollment.
  • You must regularly check your school email account for information related to your academy.
  • Academy events may require you to miss class and you must understand that it is your responsibility to make arrangements with your teacher(s) to complete any tasks you may have missed.

Please be sure that you meet the academy requirements by May 1 of your senior year. These include:

  • You will need to meet the academy course requirements. Therefore, please be sure to monitor the courses that you choose to enroll in each year to ensure you do so. Students should refer to the individual academy websites for updated academy requirements. These have evolved since the beginning of the program based upon feedback from our the professionals and educators on the Academy Advisory Boards, upon changes and additions to the North Hills curriculum and course offerings and student feedback. Students must log their completion of their Academy’s course requirements by May 1 of their senior year by completing the Google Form found here.
  • You will need to participate at least one student clubs and/or activities related to your academy for at least two consecutive years. Students should refer to the individual academy websites for extracurricular involvement academy requirements. These have evolved since the beginning of the program based upon feedback from our the professionals and educators on the Academy Advisory Boards, upon changes and additions to the North Hills curriculum and course offerings and student feedback. Students must log their completion of their Academy’s activity participation requirement by May 1 of their senior year by completing the Google Form found here.
  • You need to show evidence of reflection and thought related to your career path based upon your own career exploration opportunities through at least two reflective essays. These reflective essays need only be one page in length (single spaced), but each one should contain your own thoughts and reflection upon either formal career exploration opportunities (Examples: Academy Advisory Board meetings, Academy events/speakers/trips, other school events/speakers/trips) or informal career exploration opportunities of value. When reflecting upon these events, you may wish to consider the following: What did you learn about this career path you did not know before? Did anything cause you to become more or less interested or excited about this career path? Do you still want to pursue it? Why or why not (Note: It is ok if not!)? Students must submit their Academy career exploration essays by May 1 of their senior year by completing the Google Form found here.
  • You will need to complete an electronic portfolio. You will need to complete an electronic portfolio documenting their investigation of the occupations they might explore related to this Academy. Participation in an Academy has a number of requirements including a demonstration that students have engaged in career investigation as it relates to their own personal qualities and their match to the expectations of their chosen career field. Examining these aspects of yourself and comparing your own qualities to the expectations of your chosen field is a vital part of determining is this is the correct path for you. The hope is that your completion of these activities confirm that your career choice is a good match for you, but it is perfectly acceptable if your investigation reveals that this might not be the best career choice for you. Either outcome is a successful career investigation. Students must submit their Academy occupation investigation by May 1 of their senior year by completing the Google Form found here. Students are encouraged to complete the activities listed, take notes on the outcomes and then complete the Google Form.
