2015-2016 Schoolwide Projects

This year began with a cloud hanging over everyone's heads . . . because we studied weather!  For a look at GATE class projects about weather, click here.

Our school celebrated weather with a K-6 assembly presented by Aaron Haegele  and Brenton Williams of California U. of PA’s American Meteorological Society. Haegele shared his experiences as a Storm Chaser. The two also presented a powerpoint on extreme weather conditions. Following the assembly, they led sixth grade GATE students in a workshop based on students’ research of weather’s impact on historical events such as NASA’s Challenger disaster and the WW II bombing of Nagasaki. Both events were made possible through a generous grant from West View’s PTA.

Junior Achievement Logo
West View has partnered with Junior Achievement of Western PA for nine years.  At this year's J.A. Day, students from Mrs. Downey's Leadership class taught students in grades K and 1.  PTA volunteers, WestBanco employees, and Omega Financial employees taught lessons in the upper grades.

For almost 100 years, Junior Achievement has inspired and prepared young people to succeed in a global economy.  West View Elementary School celebrates this important partnership.

Special thanks to Amanda Laichak, JA's Director of Education, and to Mrs. Brown, who coordinated all of our volunteers!
